The College welcomed 170 new students earlier this week and welcomes back returning students this weekend. Orientation for new students concludes today with an adventure program at a local ropes course. Returning students begin checking in this morning and will be moving in to their rooms throughout the day.
Later tonight, they'll all meet each other for the first time with a glow-stick rave party in the student center.
On the more serious side, the barista will be working overtime when classes begin Monday morning bright and early at 8 a.m. All are invited to attend the Convocation ceremony on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Students Greeted With Campus Improvements
It's been a busy summer as Randolph College continues to upgrade and improve our facilities.
Thanks to a gift from Mary Michels Scovanner ’77, students will notice improvements in various social spaces on campus including a renovation of the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Student Center, new billiards table, permanent lighting in the Dell, a portable sound system for parties, new bikes for the bike share program, new cardio equipment in Physical Education and Recreation center (gym) and a renovation of the Smith Hall Bar.
The new Field and Track complex is open for business. Runners, joggers, and walkers are invited to use the synthetic surface track. WildCat fans will enjoy watching women's and men's teams compete on the lighted all-weather surface from the new stands. View photos.

Preventing H1N1 Flu at College
As the new academic year commences at Randolph College, the Health Center and the Student Life Office are taking positive, proactive steps to keep students, faculty and staff healthy and prevent the threat of H1N1 flu (aka swine flu). H1N1 afflicts college-age populations particularly hard.
Officials have distributed hand sanitizers and disinfecting wipes to all offices and faculty, worked to obtain vaccinations, and continually hold information sessions for students on how to avoid infection.

Randolph College Named a Forbes Best Buy
Randolph College was the only private college in Virginia named a Best College Buy in the latest rankings from Forbes and the Center for College Affordability and Productivity (CACP). Randolph College also earned a spot in Forbes America’s Best Liberal Arts Colleges and the Best Colleges in the South lists.
The Fiske Guide to Colleges gave the College high praise for the rigor of its academic programs, naming it one of the nation's "best and most interesting" colleges. Randolph is one of just 12 Virginia colleges and 330 nationwide to be recognized.
The Princeton Review's Best 371 Colleges named Randolph a "Best Southeast College" and lauded the College's outstanding academics and diversity. Randolph ranked 12th among all colleges in having a high level of interaction between students of different races and classes.
U.S. News & World Report's America's Best Colleges 2010 ranks Randolph in the Top Tier of national liberal arts colleges. The College was also recognized for our diversity and global focus — ranking 7th among those colleges in the percentage of international students on campus.

Randolph College to Host Girls Sports Clinic
Randolph College will participate in the Virginia Amateur Sports Girls Sports Clinic on September 19, 2009.
